EPL 2024/25 Boxing Day: Scores & Highlights

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is helped up by Wolverhampton Wanderers' Sam Johnstone during the Premier League match

Boxing Day in the 2024/25 EPL season offered a plethora of compelling matchups, showcasing the talents of all 20 league teams.

League leaders Liverpool continued their impressive form with a 3-1 triumph over Leicester City at Anfield Stadium. Mohamed Salah netted his 16th goal of the season, maintaining his position as the top scorer ahead of Erling Haaland, who has 13 goals.

Manchester City sought redemption after their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa the week before, but their efforts only resulted in a 1-1 draw against Everton. This result pushed City down to 7th place, leaving them 14 points adrift of top-placed Liverpool.

The season’s surprise package, Nottingham Forest, secured a 1-0 win against Tottenham, marking their fourth consecutive victory. This win propelled them past Arsenal into third place by just one point, though they have played one more game than most rivals.

The day’s biggest upset occurred in the Chelsea vs Fulham clash, where the visiting side captured all three points at Stamford Bridge. The defeat widened the gap to seven points between Chelsea and league leaders Liverpool.

Fulham Stun Chelsea With Late Game-Winner From Muniz

Fulham significantly dented Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes with a dramatic 2-1 away win. It was Fulham’s first victory at Stamford Bridge since 1979, ending Chelsea’s 12-game unbeaten run.

Cole Palmer gave Chelsea an early edge with a goal in the 16th minute.

After receiving the ball about 40 yards out, he maneuvered skillfully into the penalty area and slotted the ball through Issa Diop’s legs, finding the corner of Bernd Leno’s net.

The lead lasted until the 82nd minute when Fulham managed to equalize through Harry Wilson. Wilson was set up by a headed pass from Timothy Castagne. Deep into stoppage time, Lukic made an excellent run and delivered the ball to Rodrigo Muniz, who secured a memorable victory for Fulham. The Fulham bench erupted in celebration, marking one of the team’s most significant wins in recent history.

Despite the loss, Chelsea remains in second place, four points behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand. Fulham climbed to the eighth position, now level on points with last year’s champions Manchester City.

Man City Struggles to Secure Win Against Everton

Man City’s season took another hit yesterday, failing to overcome Everton at Etihad Stadium. The match concluded in a 1-1 draw, with Erling Haaland’s second-half penalty saved by Jordan Pickford, a miss that could have decided the game.

City has secured only one win in their last 13 games across all competitions. This result leaves them 7th in the standings, making their title defense seem almost insurmountable this year.

City initiated the scoring when Bernardo Silva controlled a pass from Jeremy Doku and, via a deflection off Jarrad Branthwaite, found the far corner. Phil Foden nearly doubled the lead, creating another excellent chance for Silva, but the ball went wide.

Everton equalized in the 36th minute through Iliman Ndiaye, who skillfully struck the ball with the outside of his boot, sending it into the far corner.

Early in the second half, City had an opportunity to take the lead, but Haaland was unable to capitalize on a penalty. Despite relentless efforts to secure a victory in the dying moments, City couldn’t find the back of the net again, leading to a frustrating draw.
