Two Manchester United players are on the chopping block for Ruben Amorim.

Returning to the top is the aim of Manchester United. This legendary English club is determined to regain its elite status in football. However, since the departure of their iconic manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, the team has taken an unexpected turn. The Scottish manager left in 2013, and since then, the Red Devils have neither won the Premier League nor reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Several coaches have tried their hand, but none have discovered the winning formula. Now, it is the turn of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim to tackle the tough challenge of getting the English club back on track. Formerly the coach of Sporting Portugal, Amorim showed remarkable achievements both domestically and in Europe, including a notable victory against rivals Manchester City in the Champions League. The club’s management is placing their faith in their new coach, and Amorim aims to build the most competitive squad possible. Nonetheless, the management, along with the coach, is calling for some players to leave, notably because Amorim wants to part ways with Christian Eriksen and Antony may be sold to free up funds in January.

Signings Seen as Failures

Christian Eriksen and Antony’s situations have turned problematic. Brought in to strengthen the squad, neither player has managed to become essential to the team. Antony’s transfer was heavily influenced by Erik ten Hag, his former coach. Manchester United invested significantly to secure him, but the dynamic winger hasn’t lived up to expectations in England as he did in the Netherlands.

Now, their time at Manchester United seems to be running out. Their exits are crucial to bringing in new talent and building a more competitive team for Ruben Amorim. With his contract running until 2025, Christian Eriksen could leave for free this summer, providing no financial return. In Antony’s case, with a contract until 2027, his departure could offer substantial financial relief.
