Qatari giants Al Duhail have officially announced the signing of Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek as the new spearhead of their attack, following the departure of Kenyan goal-machine Michael Olunga. Piatek, 29, joins the club from Turkish side Basaksehir, where he scored 21 goals in the 2024/25 season. He brings extensive European experience, having played for AC Milan, Genoa, Fiorentina, and Hertha BSC in Germany.

Piatek played 35 times for the Polish national team, netting 12 goals. His arrival is seen as a strategic move by Al Duhail to maintain their attacking prowess after Olunga’s exit. The club finished second in the Qatar Stars League 2024/25 and is preparing for a return to the AFC Champions League Elite 2025/26.

Michael Olunga’s time spent at Al Duhail was spectacular, to say the least. Joining the club in January 2021 from Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol, Olunga quickly made an impact by scoring on his debut in a 7-1 win over Al Wakrah. Over four and a half years, he became Al Duhail’s all-time top scorer with 130 goals in all competitions. Cementing his legacy as one of the club’s greatest players.

Olunga himself expressed pride in his achievements and gratitude towards the club, fans, and staff. He hinted at the possibility of returning to Al Duhail in the future, whether as a player, coach, or official

Olunga’s departure has sparked interest from several clubs, notably Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds and UAE’s Al Nasr SC. Both are keen to secure the prolific striker’s services. This interest underscores Olunga’s continued value and reputation in the football market.
