Dunfermline Athletic has provided an update on the future of former Kenya national team captain Victor Wanyama, who joined the Scottish Championship side in March 2025 on a short-term deal to help them avoid relegation. The 33-year-old midfielder reunited with manager Neil Lennon, under whom he previously played at Celtic, and has since been an influential presence as the club fights to maintain its league status.

Wanyama’s contract with Dunfermline is set to expire at the end of the current season, and talks are ongoing regarding a possible extension. The club has confirmed that they are in dialogue with Wanyama, along with five other players, about new contracts as they prepare for a significant squad overhaul this summer. Retaining Victor Wanyama is seen as a key priority, especially given the uncertainty surrounding manager Neil Lennon’s own contract renewal, which remains unresolved but is crucial to persuading Wanyama to stay.

Since joining Dunfermline, Wanyama has expressed his satisfaction with the club environment, praising the warm welcome from staff and teammates and acknowledging the club’s proud history despite its current second-tier status. He has adapted to the physical style of the Scottish Championship and is focused on helping Dunfermline secure their place in the division for next season. Wanyama has also indicated a desire to extend his stay, hoping to “leave some sort of legacy” and contribute to the club’s push to return to a higher league.

Extending his contract with Dunfermline would mark an important chapter in Wanyama’s career, allowing him to continue playing a leadership role in a competitive league while mentoring younger players. After a distinguished career that included stints at Celtic, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and CF Montréal, this move represents a chance for Wanyama to leverage his experience to impact Scottish football at a crucial stage for Dunfermline.
