Kakamega Homeboyz have made a bold statement in the transfer market by setting an asking price of between Sh10 million and Sh15 million for their star striker Moses Shumah, the newly crowned 2024/25 FKF Premier League Golden Boot winner. The club’s chairman, Cleophas Shimanyula, confirmed that the valuation was increased following Shumah’s stellar season. He netted 17 goals to top the league’s scoring charts in the just-finished season, where Kenya Police won a surprise title.
Moses Shumah’s rise has been one of the defining stories of the season. The 22-year-old forward joined Kakamega Homeboyz in 2022 and has since developed into one of the most clinical finishers in the league. His 17-goal haul, which included only one penalty, was instrumental in propelling Homeboyz to a historic third-place finish, their best-ever league performance. Shumah’s goals came against a variety of opponents, including braces and hat-tricks versus KCB, Nairobi City Stars, and Murang’a SEAL. Also, crucial strikes against top sides like Kenya Police, AFC Leopards, and Bandari FC.
Shumah’s consistency and ability to deliver in high-pressure matches have made him a standout talent. He edged out FC Talanta’s Emmanuel Osoro (16 goals) and Tusker’s Ryan Ogam (15 goals) in a tightly contested Golden Boot race that went down to the final fixtures. Notably, his last goal of the campaign came in a pivotal 2-0 victory over Kariobangi Sharks. Sealing his position as the league’s top marksman.
Transfer Interest and Market Value
The decision to set Shumah’s price tag at Sh15 million reflects both his current form and potential growth. According to Chairman Shimanyula, the fee was previously Sh10 million. Still, it was raised after Shumah finished as the league’s top scorer. It underlined the club’s intent to benefit significantly should a transfer materialise.
Interest in Shumah goes beyond the local rivals. Zambian champions Power Dynamos have emerged as frontrunners in the race for his signature. Aiming to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League. Zesco United, another Zambian powerhouse, and at least one South African club have also expressed interest. Domestically, Gor Mahia previously attempted to sign Shumah, but negotiations stalled due to the high asking price.
