With merely a couple of weeks remaining before the commencement of the 2024/25 season in La Liga, several top-tier teams are endeavouring to finalize roster adjustments. Continue reading for a summary of the most recent summer transfer updates in Spain’s premier league.
Bryan Gil Secures Loan Move to Girona from Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil has been loaned to Girona for the upcoming season under an undisclosed arrangement. Originally acquired by Spurs from Sevilla for £21 million in 2021, Gil has found limited playing opportunities with the English side. Since his transfer, the Spaniard has made 31 appearances, including just two starts in the Premier League.
In January 2023, Gil returned to Sevilla on a six-month loan after an initial stint with Valencia during the first half of the 2021-22 season. Despite being present for the entire last season at Tottenham, he only accrued 12 appearances and struggled to integrate into the team’s offensive strategies.
Moving to Girona represents a significant chance for Gil as the team has qualified for this season’s Champions League for the first time in its history. He aims to fill the void left by Savinho, who had an outstanding season for Girona, netting nine goals and contributing 10 assists.
Pau Victor Transfers from Girona to Barcelona
Barcelona has announced a five-year agreement with Girona to secure the services of striker Pau Victor. Although they did not exercise the purchase option, Barcelona reportedly paid around 2.5 million euros to acquire Victor on loan.
Victor delivered a stellar performance with Barca Atletic last season, finishing as their leading scorer and helping the team reach the promotion play-off final.
The 22-year-old striker initially joined Girona as a youth player, making his first appearance in Segunda A when he was just 18 years old.
Despite regularly playing for Girona B, he only appeared in 8 matches with the main squad before being loaned to CE Sabadell in 2022. After extending his contract with Girona FC for an additional two years last season, he was loaned out again, this time to FC Barcelona Atlètic.
Hugo Novoa Transitions to Alaves on a Permanent Basis
Following three consecutive loan spells, RB Leipzig announced their decision to part ways with striker Hugo Novoa last week. The 21-year-old is set to return home to Deportivo Alaves for a reported fee of €1.5 million.
Novoa was signed by the German side in 2019 but didn’t see much action with their main roster. During his time in the Bundesliga, he managed to score two goals in 15 league appearances for Leipzig across the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. Notably, he holds the record as the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history.
Although he had a promising start at Leipzig, Novoa struggled to secure a regular spot on the first team. Over the past few seasons, he was loaned out to Basel, Utrecht, and most recently Villareal. At Alaves, he is anticipated to play a much more significant role next season, likely earning a starting position.
Endrick Joins Real Madrid
Real Madrid has announced the signing of 17-year-old Brazilian talent Endrick, finalizing the deal on July 27. The young forward has agreed to a contract that will keep him with the reigning La Liga champions for the next six seasons.
In 2022, Endrick made a move from Palmeiras, a club based in Sao Paulo, with plans to join Madrid in July 2024 upon turning 18. The transfer is said to have cost an initial 35 million euros, with an additional 25 million euros potentially in add-ons.
Endrick, who came through the Palmeiras academy, has represented the Brazilian national team, netting three goals in 10 matches since his debut last year. He holds the record as the youngest male player to score an international goal at Wembley Stadium.
Within domestic competitions, he found the back of the net 21 times across 82 appearances for Palmeiras.
